We Are Not In The Same Boat

The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the already existing unrest, the fear, the distrust of not only our governments, but also our neighbours.

The past 2 years have been different for all of us. One thing we share is that we were all forced to experience things we have never experienced before. It opened our eyes to things that often went unnoticed. It brought to light many things we would have preferred to stay in the shadows.

The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the already existing unrest, the fear, the distrust of not only our governments, but also our neighbours. Those who had much, faced the threat of scarcity. And those who had little to begin with were pushed to the brink.

We were shown the inequality and injustice that many of us face on a day-to-day basis. We were exposed to how quickly it can all change.

There were also many public displays of the differences between the “haves” and the “have-nots”. People on vacations in foreign countries during travel bans. Those who went to cottages while others sheltered in place. People rented islands for private birthday parties while others went to work everyday fearing they may bring a deadly virus home to their fragile loved ones.

Let us not forget the gaps, the struggles, the inequalities and unfairness that was brought to the attention of the collective consciousness. Don’t try to push away the things you now know. Use that knowledge to inform your future decisions. Recognize that we are stronger together and we are all responsible for the wellbeing of our neighbours.

If there is anything positive to gain from the last 2 years it’s that we know more about the experiences of others and can now take steps to change things for the better.

Seize the opportunities for change that are in front of you now. Make choices that will lead us all to a better, healthier, happier life.

Tell your leaders that you will no longer sit back while they prosper at the expense of so many, benefit from doing nothing to help those that need it, and concern themselves with their image and public brand. The time for change is now. The system, as it is currently constructed, isn’t made to benefit the many, it is made to benefit the few at the expense of the many.

The time is now to tell the few that their time is UP.
